Krka River Lodge is a small lodge catering to fly fisherman located on an amazingly productive stretch of the Krka River. The lodge offers comfortable rooms that are clean and reasonably priced, all-inclusive fly fishing packages (lodging, all meals, guides and permits/licenses giving access to rivers across Slovenia). The lodge is endorsed by Orvis and the guides are exceptional.
Over 5 days I fished multiple rivers across the country, splitting fishing time between dries and nymphs, catching more than 15 fish each day including - rainbows, browns, grayling, and marble trout. My guide helped navigate the early fall weather to optimize my time to be where fishing conditions were best.

What a fine week at the Krka River Lodge and Slovenia in general! You both did everything possible to make my stay relaxing, productive, thoroughly enjoyable and memorable. I loved the variety of the rivers and the techniques we used to catch fish each day. The big browns and the fat rainbow so close to home were terrific, but, obviously, catching a marble trout on a dry fly was the crowning moment! The extraordinary colors of the streams, Miha's eagerness to guide no matter how late it got, and the history and scenery of Slovenia made for a complete trip.
I almost forgot to mention the food and the wines! What fun it was to dine "high and low"; each different place was just right. And I'm really glad I added two days of sightseeing onto the five days of fishing: the World Heritage Area Cave and the Lippizan Stallions' home were not to be missed.

I had the awesome experience of joining 4 other international fishing friends and and a couple of Slovenians on a river fishing trip in their homeland. It was amazing! The Krka River Lodge team took us all to their favorite rivers - Sava Bohinjka, Unica, Idrijca, Soca, Radovna, and Lepena. Each of the rivers had there beauty and charm and beautiful fish. My favorite rivers though were the Lepena with it’s lovely mountain views and deep pool where we could see so many fish swimming as we viewed from the high boulder, and the Soca with it’s tropical like colors and the trout there were as pale as the white river bottom. Tomaz realized his goal of getting us all into Browns, Rainbows, Grayling and the elusive Marble trout. Tomaz knows his waters and the trout hangouts ! :-). Also don’t miss the tour through the Postojna Cave, so amazing! A most memorable week!!

Slovenia is a diverse and magical fishery set in alpine scenery right out of the Sound of Music. The infrastructure is modern and the food and people are wonderful. If it’s not on your “bucket list” of destinations, I suggest you add it immediately!
